It is the end of 2020, and as I reflect on Google Stadia throughout the year —I cannot stress this enough — it just could not have been a better & more perfectly timed gift from Google during a global pandemic.

A BIG thank you — again — to Google and the Google Stadia Team! From the platform upgrades, the player experience enhancements, the new games being on-boarded, the Game Studio / Developer partnerships, the YouTube Game Play streaming integrations & enhancements, and the communication transparency along the way from the following mediums:

You’re killing it Google — and I’m here for it again — in 2021.

Previously, I wrote about how Google Stadia was keeping me fully entertained during the pandemic as a casual gamer — and as I reflect on 2020 — it has fully delivered. I discovered new games that I would not have otherwise played or been exposed to. I played AAA games on my mobile phone while riding the subway. The gameplay was seamless and inter-modal across my laptop and my mobile phone — I just started playing on one device, and then just picked up and played on another mobile device — it was like having a Nintendo Switch, but with the new advanced 2020 game playing baselined experience the world ACTUALLY desires.

Google Stadia absolutely fit my minimalistic and transient lifestyle (hear me: NON-transient lifestyle during a pandemic) with no console needed in my home, a Google Stadia Controller that you can easily put into a backpack and be on your way, and no need to install any game updates before I get started to play — developers / game studios take care of all of that for you on the back end. If that was not enough to get excited about, I now have a Google Stadia Pro library of over 60 games (and growing each month); I was even able to share that gaming library to my Google Family — at no-cost to them!

In 2020, I learned a lot, I played a lot, and I grew a lot as a casual gamer. From what I played (and want to play), here’s the best games from 2020 on Google Stadia that I’ll definitely be playing (or playing again) in 2021 (NOTE: List is not a ranking):

  1. Gylt the Game
  2. Celeste
  3. Sundered Eldritch Edition
  4. Super Bomberman R Online (NOTE: Play FREE right now!)
  5. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
  6. Mortal Kombat 11
  7. Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech
  8. Immortals Fenyx Rising: Stadia
  9. Doom Eternal
  10. Final Fantasy XV
  11. Wave Break
  12. Jotun: Valhalla Edition
  13. Just Shapes & Beats
  14. One Hand Clapping
  15. Outcasters
  16. PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle
  17. PHOGS!
  18. Spiritfarer
  19. Uno Ultimate Edition
  20. Steamworld Dig 2
